Ashby de la Zouch and online

Hello and welcome to my website. If you’ve found your way here, I imagine that you have an issue in your relationship and/or a problem with your sex life and think psychotherapy may help. I hope the information that you find in these pages is useful and helps you navigate through to the next step (whatever that looks like for you).

It might not feel this way at the moment, but please know that you’re not alone in this. Many people seek help or guidance at some stage in their lives. As a psychotherapist for almost 20 years I have helped people find solutions for a wide range of challenges, including (but not limited to) relationships, sex and intimacy, trauma, domestic abuse, and other issues such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and anger problems.

Who am I?

I am a highly experienced (Relate-trained) senior-accredited Sex and Relationship Psychotherapist and accredited Clinical Supervisor based in Ashby de la Zouch (in the heart of the National Forest). Over almost 20 years in psychotherapy, I have provided therapy to individuals and couples of any age, gender and sexual orientation to help improve their well-being, relationships and sex life.

Seeking help isn’t easy and I try my best to put you at your ease during your first visit. In fact, clients regularly report how nervous they are before attending their first session, but then go on to tell me how relieved they are that they have finally taken a positive step towards finding a solution.

How counselling can help you

When we agree to work together, I provide you with a supportive, confidential and non-judgemental space in which to explore your problems in depth. Counselling can help you understand yourself and your problems, empowering you to use your own resources and capabilities to find ways to manage your emotions more effectively and make better choices in your life. I am here to listen with empathy and to offer you a fresh perspective on the challenges you are facing, which will help you make the changes you need to achieve your goals at this stage of your life. Counselling is led by you – I will not make decisions for you or offer you opinions. I truly believe that the power to change comes from within – I am here to help you find your own answers.

Relationships need to be nurtured and we all struggle with issues from time to time – that’s perfectly normal. Counselling gives you the opportunity to explore your relationship (what’s working and what isn’t) so you can understand yourself, your partner and your relationship better and work towards making any changes needed. I work with couples and individuals.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing is a technique developed to treat trauma and PTSD. Our bodies process our experiences without us really knowing about it, but sometimes a traumatic event can overload our system and get ‘frozen’ in the brain. EMDR helps us process traumatic memories in a natural way by creating connections in our brain’s memory networks, enabling us to make sense of our trauma and prevent feelings of anxiety and despair being triggered.

Many people experience difficulties in their sexual relationships at some stage. It's an area of our life that we rarely talk about, but it can cause significant problems. Many concerns about sex and intimacy are often linked to other underlying issues such as stress, anxiety or depression, but sexual function can also be affected by chronic illness, the side-effects of medication, surgery or ageing. People can find themselves in need of psychosexual therapy for a variety of reasons.

Compulsive sexual behaviour, often referred to as sex addiction or porn addiction, can feel overwhelming and uncontrollable. It's characterised by persistent, intense sexual thoughts, urges, and behaviours that may negatively impact relationships, work, and overall well-being. If you find yourself struggling with compulsive sexual behaviour, you're not alone. Many people experience these challenges, and seeking help is a brave first step towards regaining control and finding balance in your life.
